Longitudinal associations between attachment and forgivingness within romantic relationships

Being securely attached and willing to forgive your partner tends promote greater relationship success. Though attachment forgiveness are associated cross-sectionally, research has yet investigate whether how these positive factors tend codevelop over time. The current study examined cross-lagged effects correlated changes in forgivingness across a 2-year period with two measurement occasions ( n = 514 individuals). Additionally, dyadic analyses were conducted subsample of dyads the 149 dyads). Individual level evidenced negative cross-sectional longitudinal associations between attachment-anxiety forgivingness. Attachment-avoidance showed significant Dyadic that attachment-avoidance predicted 2 years later but not vice versa. Findings suggest may take different forms at individual level.
